Windows 7

Anyone know if it is still available to get?

I am wondering if it will run video games more efficiently.

Anyone from this forum use Windows 7 yet? Any reviews on it? How do you like compared to XP Pro?

^^^^ How in gods name is your mobo not compatible with Vista?

No, the download isn't available from Microsoft, the only way to get it now is through torrents and such. Microsoft makes this easy by still providing the activation keys on their website :P

So far I love it. I have it installed on all 3 of my computers now, and it runs great on all of them. It's so fast...I love not waiting for anything :D

I installed it on my laptop's second hard drive. I played around with it a little bit when I first installed it, but I haven't touched it since. From what I did with it, it seemed fine. The new taskbar is a little weird to get used to. Maybe I should try messing with it again. It was just too much of a pain to set up and install everything like I like it so I didn't even bother.

Again, just try torrents. It's still very readily available.

Does Windows 7 beta have DX10? Could I partition a piece of my harddrive off, installs Windows 7, and see how my PC handles DX10 games?

I'm new to the forum so be nice, so isn't Windows 7 just a glorified Version of Vista?

I love the new features 7 has over vista, i love throwing word on the right and my internet on the left so i can paraphrase without having to click back and forth between windows.

It is vista just with more features it seems.

The Windows has DX 11. or that what it said when I checked it on my machine. I am running the x64 version of it. Really like it, if wasn't for the memory dumps that goes on with it.

I believe Vista (my wife has it) or XP pro is simply a matter of choice depending on your software/hardware and what your uses are. I was really inbetween what to get after building my new computer this week with an i7 processor (with 6 gigs of Corsair ram) and Nvidia 285 card, along with a few other goodies. I run XP Pro and later... when Windows 7 has been out for a short while... I'll install it and am sure my unit will be ready for it. Go with works for 'you'.

Is that not the same as say, not maximizing either and then dragging them to size like you can on vista and xp and heck every other winndows os, or am i missing something here?

hey, dont mean to jack the thread, but if i do get this, where can i get a key, and what program would i use to partition my 500g hd to load this on???

You can get a key from:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx

select your os, ie 32 or 64 bit, and your language and a new screen with the key will appear.

As for getting the software, it is no longer available. You can get it from a torrent site but ofcourse with that comes thie risk of viruses and what not.

To partition a drive during OS instalation you are given the option where to install it and what to do with your current drive. You can just select "create new partion" and then install it on that, you don't need any special software for it.

ok so when i make the partition, will it delete everything i currently have on that drive? i have the space to transfer it all temporarily, but should i?

If you partition it correctly, you won't lose anything. Go into the partition area, in vista it's Administrative tools, and "create and format hard disk partitions" - Right click one of them with a large amount of free space, and click "shrink volume". Enter the amount of megabytes in thousands to shrink by, so for example, if you type 20,000, you will have a new 20gb partition. When it's done, click on the area and select new simple partition I think it is. Name it, and you're good to go. When installing 7, make sure you click custom installation, and just select the new drive name for installing it.
