Windows 8 and 10

I have three computers waiting for me to service them. One needs a new HD because I have installed a new MB. This one will need a copy of WIN 10. The second one needs to be upgraded to WIN 8. I will buy a copy and install it and then maybe upgrade to WIN 8.1. This third one, which is up and running, I am planning to upgrade with a free copy of WIN 10 from Microsoft. Now I am just waiting for time to pass. Some money is forthcoming next month.

It would be fun seeing what WIN 8 looks like. Maybe download 8.1 and look at that for a while. Then, download free copy of WIN 10 from Microsoft. No hassle.

Fair enough, but you'd probably want to buy Windows 8.1, not 8. If you buy 8 then you need to download and install about 120 updates, then upgrade 8 to 8.1 via the Windows Store, then upgrade 8.1 to 10 via the update after having downloaded and installed a few hundred updates onto 8.1. Unlike the 8 to 8.1 free upgrade, the 8.1 to 10 free upgrade is often not immediate. I believe you have until July 29th to upgrade Windows 7 or 8.1 to 10 for free (a year from when the OS came out).

WIN 8.1 is a crumby OS. A poor excuse on Microsoft's part for an upgrade.

There aint nothing wrong with the OS. It is as hard as a rock. The user interface is the issue, but you will find the same issues on Windows 10. Even with classic shell (i.e the weird two control panels).

You need to choose. Stay with Windows 7, and lose out when it eventually is put to death by Microsoft at the end of life; or stay with 10/8.1 and accept it but stay in support.

People need to realise Windows 7 is not coming back. Unless you want to learn how to use Linux and bask in the glorious freeness of it (but then, W10 is free atm), then it is a thing you have to accept. Otherwise we would all still be on Windows XP. (Except @spirit, who would be on Windows Vista).

Technology is changing. We have to keep up with it. I hated Windows 8.x for the UI but I have realised that I need to learn to utilise and work with it rather than resist it.

Way better than Windows 8.
Yeah going back to 8 from 8.1 you really notice how many changes were made in 8.1. It's not just the Start Button or renaming 'Computer' to 'This PC', it's lot of other things too. The Start Screen Searching is so much better in 8.1 than it was in 8.

I thought 8 was pretty good at the time (once I got over the GUI and embraced it) but after 8.1 came out I never wanted to use 8 again.

I like WIN 10 a lot, especially the nice graphics. I am running into problems though. In my free download, the emails won't print and the browser doesn't work. I want to upgrade to WIN 10 with another computer, but the free download doesn't work. I have been talking with their technicians since yesterday morning about the email problem, but they haven't come up with an answer. I am turning to you guys...

I use chrome. Microsoft 10's browser is Edge. I can use that as well. Microsoft provides its customers with a free download of WIN 10. The free download doesn't download...I have spoken with six Microsoft technicians already in the last two days. They are unable to fix the problem with the email. The problem with the WIN 10 email is that I am unable to print out emails. They think it is the printer driver. The printer can print anything but emails. We have downloaded WIN 10 again. That didn't solve the email problem. I think the problem is a line of code that is missing in the WIN 10 free download.

If you print directly from 'modern apps' such as Edge and the Mail app in Windows 10 then there can be issues with some printers I'm afraid. Sometimes the printer will actually freeze and you won't be able to print. It's quite a common issue with Windows 10. I've encountered it several times. If you also can't print webpages directly from Edge then that's quite a common problem too. Are you pressing the print button and nothing is happening on your printer or your printer becomes unresponsive? That does happen. :(

Have a look at this? http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...0/b8e9460e-4dcd-4655-9920-b65e22a33905?auth=1

I would actually try downloading and installing the windows 10 driver software from the printer manufacturer instead of letting windows install the software. I've never had printing problems in windows 10. Are you using an app or web site for your email?

I am surprised that, of the six Microsoft technicians I talked to, none of them were aware of this problem in WIN 10. I tried updating the driver as is suggested in the link questions and answers. I tried updating the driver from the one offered by WIN 10 and the one offered by Epson. Neither approach worked. The printer still isn't printing form email. The final solution offered by two of the techs was to redownload WIN 10. This didn't work either, as the problem is IN WIN 10. I am using the Microsoft email app. I would like to bring this problem to the attention of Microsoft, but how to do that?

Fresh install once you've activated it.
