Hi all, i want to upgrade my old windows 95 PC (Upgrade ALL parts) and i am going to wait until win8 is getting out. Is it good what i am doing or windows xp,/7 are better than 8?
Thanks in advance! :)

Is it the system in your sig? If so it should run fine. My advice though would be not to use Windows 8, it's not great, Windows 7 is much better.

Edit: just seen it's a Windows 95 system. It would be a waste of your time and money upgrading it really. You'd have to replace pretty much every last component to get it work with 7 or 8.

Many of the vintage 95 computers had a different I/O plate design for the motherboards, so you got a good chance that you couldn't even use your old Computer Case, much less any of other Hardware.

Windows 8 is probably the first Windows OS I would say will need Hardware totally designed for it to take advantage of all the touch screen stuff.

If someone doesn't care about having touch screen features then Windows 8 is not really worth installing, especially on Desktop Computers.

You cannot upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows 8, Unless you change Ever single piece of hardware.. Motherboard /CPU /Ram and so on..

I get W8 for free, as a computer science student, but i'm honestly not tempted at all to install it. I'll wait for a mass-review. If the review is is really good, then i'll install it.

Okay, you will need to build a new one assuming your build was bought from a store, and is specd from windows 95 retail time.

Second, Download windows 8 on a VM on your XP machine and see if you like it. I personally don't like it. I don't like any currently supported windows OS, but I have to use vista/7 for games and xp for school. :( anyway there seems to be a question of personal security (remember you pay for the ability to use windows) on windows 8. Many here seem to think windows 7 will be the better OS. So you have to use your own judgement and look at it. Its a call only you can make.

I've Windows 8 in a VM, it's officially useless if you like to use a mouse or a keyboard - or... revolutionary idea, both a mouse and a keyboard simultaneously.

I would advise you save your money, time and soul by not touching Windows 8.

Dont touch Windows 8. Windows 7 or XP would be your best bet, or a distro of linux.

Put UBUNTU or another version of linux in that old system... It will bring it back to life.

I have to post just to tell you about how much I cannot stand windows 8. I tried it in 2 computers. One was a lenovo laptop, which has a button for recovery rather than pressing f8 or f9 during startup. WINDOWS 8 DISABLED IT! So not only did I hate windows 8, but i had a heck of a time getting rid of it. After some googling, I found out how to switch the primary partition that had my recovery installed which did the trick.

And then I had my old asus laptop i was trying to do something with, screen was totally busted, and its so dusty from the afghanistan sandstorms i'm pretty sure its gonna die on me someday soon. I tried to use it with my tv to hold movies and such. I bought a wireless logitech keyboard with a touchpad instead of a mouse so i could sit on the couch with it. Every time I tilted the keyboard the slightest inch it swiped over to a different screen. Couldn't stay on task. To me, windows 8 would solely work on a touchpad pc. But i'll have to admit the ipad software is better than windows 8... just buy an ipad.

Sorry about the lengthy rant... lol
