Windows 8 to Windows 7

if i have a new computer with windows 8 on it and i want to change it to windows 7, how would i go about doing this?

meaning.....would my windows 8 product key work if i just loaded a copy of windows 7 from the internet?......or do i need to buy a copy of windows 7 with a new product key?

Windows 8 keys do not work with Windows 7. Each version has its own key.

The thing with downgrading a Windows 8 machine to Windows 7 is you need to disable a bunch of crap in the BIOS and it's simply a pain in the ass. Just stick with Windows 8. It's better than 7. Just install ClassicShell to get a start menu again and you won't even notice the difference.

thanks, can you explain a bit more what ClassicShell is?

It's just a small application that you can find online. When you install it, you can select what style of start menu you want (Classic or Aero Windows 7 theme).

I thought you hated Windows 8? :P

Anyway, I never bothered with any start menu crap even with the original Windows 8 that didn't have a start button and now I'm so used to the start screen that I wouldn't really welcome a return of the start menu in the next version of Windows.

Use 8.1 with the start screen. You'll get used to it.

I hate the start screen. And I've had no issues enjoying Windows 8 since I installed it on my desktop earlier this month.

I don't use the Start screen or a Start menu replacement. Virtually all programs install an icon on the desktop, so I created a desktop toolbar (right-click on Taskbar, select Toolbars->Desktop) which gives me access to everything on the desktop.

I have been using a desktop toolbar since Win 2000, works great.
