windows 8 upgrade utility error

Yeah that's probably because you likely can't do a direct upgrade from XP to 8.

You'll need to put your Windows 8 disc in your DVD drive, reboot your PC, boot off the DVD and do a clean install of 8 (which does involve deleting everything on the drive you are installed onto, so make sure you backup any important information first).

Yeah, run the Windows Upgrade adviser first, and check all your hardware works with Win 8. As Spirit says, you cannot upgrade from XP, you will need to do a clean install once you have ensured everything will work and that there is Win 8 drivers.

Windows Upgrade Advisor.

was planning on doing a clean install anyways. why does microsoft website say xp requires service pack 3 to run windows upgrade assistant just to not allow it to run. all i need to know is what drivers are going to work and not work on windows 8.

If you know exactly which drivers you need to check compatibility for, look on the website for the manufacturer and see if they have a driver for Windows 8. Windows Vista and 7 drivers usually work for Windows 8 too.

the only drivers i am worried about is the drivers for the internet and graphics. because when we first installed xp service pack 1 (we have since updated to service pack 3) those drivers did not install. and i am concerned that maybe they wont work on windows 8. my dad just uses this computer for internet. there has to be a way to get the upgrade assistant to work. you would think that it would work if microsoft listed service pack 3 as a requirement for the assistant.

You may have an issue finding drivers for such an old model of pc. All you can do is install windows 8 and see if you can get all the drivers installed.

Download and install PC Wizard from my sig, run it and go to FILE, SAVE AS and click OK. Copy the text out of that file into this thread and we can see if your NIC and GPU drivers are available.

Volcano1 please do what Okeydokey said so we can see your hardware ID and tell you wether Windows 8 drivers will work on it or not.

Even if we find Windows 7 drivers, they should work just fine on Windows 8.

By the way if you do not want to install a PC wizard, you can always go into Device manager and take a look at the hardware ID VEN and DEV from there and write that here and according to that we can see if there are available drivers for your computer's hardware:

it will have to wait till i get it in. i live out of state and my dad is sending it to me. i should have it figured out by the weekend.

i updated the bios via intel website. got that running. with the windows 9.0 upgrade utility it says system not supported. when i run the windows 8.1 upgrade utility it says i need to be running windows 7. so i am wondering if maybe i should take my windows 7 disk and install it on this system. and then try again.

Yes that is exactly what I was looking for.
I will see if there are available drivers for Windows 8.1 for your hardware.
If yes then you will be able to install Windows 8.1 and all the neccessary drivers without problems.
So anyway I will see if there are available drivers for Windows 8.1 for your hardware and let you know.
The ones I will be looking for are:

-chipset
-video
-audio
-LAN network

In the meantime if you think you will need some other drivers for Windows 8.1,let me know and I will try to find those as well.
But I think that those 4 drivers will be all you need.

I will let you know soon!

any luck. with the drivers.

Do you have windows 7 installed already? If so, click on each device in device manager still needing a driver and right click on it, click on properties, click on the details tab and give me the 4 digit vendor and device id numbers. They look like this. ven_xxxx and dev_yyyy where x and y are 4 alphanumeric digits. From that info we can guide you to the drivers.

You may be waiting awhile from Stars.

ok i tried installing windows 7 and got an error saying certian giles cannot be loaded. so i restarted and now i canot boot to anything. when i try to boot to cd drive again it gives me selected boot device not avilable. NOW WHAT DO I DO!

when i tried to install it gave me a failed to load boot drivers i believe. it was working fine till i formatted the hard drive and installed it clean install.
