Windows 8

Does anybody else have this OS from hell? I absolutely hate Windows 8. What are your guys' opinions about this POS OS?

P.S. I've managed to avoid the Millenium and Vista disasters, but this time I got royally screwed.

You get mixed reviews. It's okay to me, but nothing can replace Windows 7. Sure you have things like ClassicShell that can give you a start menu back, but I don't feel it's as fully useful as the real start menu in Windows 7.

That's the thing I hate most, that it doesn't have a start menu. I was completely lost when I first got my new laptop with this disaster of an OS.

Disaster is overstating it. It's basically Windows 7 but with some performance tweeks and no start menu.

I really like it, I actually prefer Windows 8 over 7. The desktop design is nice and the filemanager improvements are great.
Startup times are awesome too.

I like the new Explorer UI and the start up and shut down times are great. I also quite like the lock screen too. ;)

Once you are used to it it's just like any other OS really. It does it's job as an OS. It's actually really quite stable and fast.

Booting faster is nice but I can't read the drive from another OS if hybrid boot is enabled. Other systems read it as the drive is locked by a hibernation file. I get rid of that feature and deal with the extra few seconds on boot.

I don't dual-boot anymore so it's not a problem for me.

yeah for most people it is ok. Only other reason that it bothers me is if you ever have a need to get files off the drive outside of Windows you are locked out. There have been plenty of times that I saved files from dead laptops. With Hybrid boot enabled I'll be locked out of the file system. I'll either need to figure out how to delete the hibernation file, or boot it in another PC without getting a BSOD.

I realize that is kinda specific, still frustrating for me. All in all I do like 8.

I have Windows 8 (non pro) on my laptop..I like how much faster it starts up (even on a standard 5400rpm it boots FAST) but i still find the whole "Metro" screen pointless on a Desktop/laptop that has no touch screen and i find its not as easy to navigate around as in Windows 7.

Maybe my opinion of windows 8 will change when 8.1 comes out.

I will not be upgrading my desktop to windows 8 though unless i can get a copy cheap...its really a rip-off at the moment,With Microsoft's store prices been quite a bit more than everyone else.

Finally, someone who shares my views on Windows 8. Yes, for an ipad or cell phone I guess it would be fine, but this OS on a laptop or desktop makes absolutely no sense.

And as far as navigating around, it's much harder now to find what you're looking for, and it seems like you have to go through a lot more steps and do a lot of digging around to find something that only took one click on Windows 7 or XP.

Love it. I press one button, and literally all the programs I use are right there on one screen.

Take some time and customize the start screen. Get rid of the apps you don't use, organize them in groups, add programs you want on there, and it's good to go.
