Windows 98 Anyone?

I haven't used it in so many years. Would it run that good on a quad? I mean it wouldn't be slow, but would it be able to utilize more then one core and so on?

i ran it as a VM for a day or so, then i upgraded it to 2000. i play older games on it, Mob-rule! yeah :)
i wouldn't want to go trough the trouble of finding drivers for win98 to run as stand-alone system anymore.

why would you want that? I had a Win98 VM and it ran like crap. Lacked driver support too.

Anything before Windows2k is crap, and right now I would strongly suggest the oldest OS you run be XP.

I pity the fool stuck in '98... :P

It was the first Windows OS I ever owned...but that was over 10 years ago! I don't think I've even run a virtual machine (let alone some actual hardware) with Win98 in 8-9 years.

lol Win 98 on a quad core, mmmm that should be interesting :P

Probably wouldnt even boot :D, i came across a Q6600 build on youtube and for a laugh he installed windows 95 and it would blue screen every time,he could only get it to boot in safe mode :D

But as for the Op question,I have not used 98 in years.

'98 was a big improvement over '95. It wasn't all that bad, really but didn't last long because Win 2000 happened pretty quickly after it was released and 2000 was a quantum leap improvement just like XP was.

Yeah i remember having Windows 98se and 2000 Pro Dual booted,I had to have 98 installed at that time because a game that i played would not run under 2000.

But i used 2000 for everything else,It was VERY reliable.

To this day i still think 2000 is still the most reliable os ive ever used,I know Xp was based off 2000 too and that was good.
Vista is just.....

I cant remember what game it was...sorry it was along time ago lol

still have 98 2nd edition, 95 OSR2 and just through away a bunch of 3.1 disc.
though i would not want to bother with it, i think 98 was the best. keep sake item i guess.

98 was much better than 95 I agree, but I don't see any reason to run either.

If your computer won't run at least XP, you should do Linux, or throw it in the garbage. :D

Are you kidding? Windows 98 is way too new and fancy for my tastes. I'll stick with my Windows 3.11 :P

I'm surprised Windows 3.11 isn't too fancy for ya. I can't get over the beauty of the DOS facade that is Windows 1.0. Who needs a stinkin' desktop...

I use it on my main PC..... Just as a virtual PC =P

I tried to run windows 3.1 in a virtual machine but sadly it didn't work.

It booted but crashed when I tried to do anything on it.

Oh well, I can still get windows 3.1 goodness from my old windows 3.1 laptop!

Windows 98 was my first windows o/s but it's now not the oldest one I own!
