Heres the deal, I have windows me on C:\ installed with windows xp on D:\, now i want to get rid of Windows ME and install Windows 98 there instead. How can i do that without hurting my XP on the other drive? ( A simple approach is preferred )
ME is much more like 98 there where you can manually delete the entire setup when booted from a ME boot floppy using dos commands like "deltree Windows". That command deletes the entire tree of sub folder as well as the Windows directory itself.
The simplified method is simply reformatting the entire Fat32 primary partition and then performing a fresh install of 98 as long as no more then 512mb of memory is installed when doing it. 98 and 98SE(Second Edition) are limited to 512mb.
Note that for seeing 98 go on without effecting XP in any way you will need to unplug the XP drive. For setting up a dual boot with XP that would have to be reinstalled to then see the older version added in as a boot option at startup. The alternative is to install an additional boot loader like Grub4Dos.
