ok, i have had windows 98se installed on this pc before. but i have since installed windows xp, and xandros linux. so when i tried to instal windows 98 again, it acted like it installed perfectly, but..... when it reboooted after the install, it didnt boot. it keeps freezing on the "win98" loading screen. i have tried to reinstal several times with backup disks. any ideas on why it might do this?? what more information do you need?

Ask a hardware dealer to check whether the CPU fan status . U could be having a freeze due to a non working fan which could be heating up the processor which in turn to protect the board being affected, freezes ur machine. This in most cases is the cause of this problem.

alas..... tis not the fan status. i have a water cooler, and the fans on the radiator is working fine. also, why would it take windows xp and not 98? i am using xp and/or xandros linux right now because it will not work on win 98... any other suggestions?

I don't think win98 will install to a non-FAT partition so I doubt this is the problem but is it on a FAT partition?

Yuh that is a good point, Linux installs on a NTFS partition, however 98Sec edition will only run on a FAT 32 partition. That is probably the cause of the problem.

its fat32. i used fdisk to do the partitioning. also, i have tried to use different hard drives so as to make sure its not the hard drive causing the prob. any other ideas?

thank you all for the help btw, i have been trying to figure it out for bout 3 months now. finaly decided i would try to find somewhere on the net to help me. so far i havent had any luck finding the answer tho. i have posted this same topic on another forum, and they gave up on it. so i apreciate your assistance.

maybe something is trying to load and hiccups, press escape when the loading screen comes up to see whats being run/loaded

If u dont have anything tooo personal or important on ur hdd, then y not format them and start over again?

Mayb it was a bad installation, maybe something is conflicting when booting up!
