I was working with a computer i have, i had a hard drive that had windows 98 installed to it, it worked perfectly, but i decided to see if any of my other hard drives had anything better like ME or XP so I installed one by one and they were all lower or didn't work. But when i installed the 98 one again it said "invalid system disk, replace the disk and then press any key". Does anyone know why this happened and/ or the way to solve this problem if it's even possible.

Note: Today i installed a hard drive that had 95 and it worked perfectly.

You can try resetting the bios and makign sure the ahrddrive is the right boot disk, and making sure the jumper caps are set right to master or auto.

Another possibiliy is the drive was damaged while handing which could be to due a drop, or a static cahrge coming form your body if you didn;t ground yourself.

How can i reset the bios, and how can i get to the ahrddrive to see if its the right boot disk, and how can i make sure the jumper caps are set right to master or auto

I dont think it is your bios that needs reseting.

Is your boot order set up so that your cd drive boots first?

To reset your bios, pull out the battery on your mobo. It looks like a whatch battery. Leave that out for a minute or two, then put it back in, and it should be reset.

Does the BIOS see the 98 drive when booting

Do you even know what the BIOS are?

Ok, basicly you need to reformat. You need to boot off the cd first which can be done in the BIOS. Start up your computer and immediatly tap the DEL/F1/F2 key. It should be one of those. Then, find something about the boot order, make it so the cd drive is number one. then save changes and exit. Put in the OS disk, and boot off of it, and install windows.

Whats the OS disk, and what do you mean by install windows.
OS=Operating system. You use an OS disk to install an operating system(XP, 2000,98,95, linux, etc.)
Install Windows-Do what i said in my earlier post, and boot off the OS disk and follow the on screen guide.

Backing up alittle, when you put the 98 harddrive back in, you did plug in the power plug on the drive
