Windows 98SE

I want to run windows 98se on my inspiron 1525. I want this laptop to go as fast as it possibly can. I am wondering if there is a updated image that could be used on a newer computer such as this one.

Windows 98 wouldn't even install on that laptop and besides the hardware won't support the OS or vice versa. However, as said, XP can be installed on it.

even if it did install it would still another nightmare trying to get everything working. you would have to have every driver and everything else and set it up one time then works well. that was the best in time. XP is a good choice. always like it. and automatic. never had vista though.

Why the hell would you even want 98 on it is my question. XP is far superior.

apparently someone at some time had taken a VM and had upgraded through every literation of windows, and everything worked, even legacy software, tho vista and 7 killed the color settings from the original setup, other than that, everything was intact, so if the hardware was willing to run something for 20+ years, you could technically upgrade all the way to now, which is kinda evil

I saw that video, it was awesome :D

But, the guy ran it in a virtual machine, in which he could change the hardware settings.
Though as you can see in my sig I had no trouble running Windows 7 on a 9 year old machine.

maybe someone should try this system of DOS to 7 upgrade on a system. Like build a cheap system and install DOS and upgrade to 2.0, 3.1 and so on till 7 to see if it works.

Probably would. I ran DOS 6 and Windows 3.11 on a 700 MHz machine with 512 MB RAM, it worked ok.

For the hell of it I'm doing a Win98 -> 7 upgrade through every version on a virtual machine :)
