windows activation question

When you activiate your windows 7 they collect your hardware ID. My question is, if you have except same laptop would they notice the difference? I assume since the hardware is exactly the same they wouldn't notice it's a new pc that's being activated.

Well, most network controller have different MAC addresses, though I don't think that's enough to make the alarms go off...

Technically, you can do it. However, each key can only be used a limited number of times before it simply refuses to work (3 unless they changed it).

I don't know what mac address is. Is that like IP address? well If I use it on 3 pcs. will i get a letter from microsoft or will my system be flagged and i won't be able to use it?

oh btw i have upgrade edition if that matter's or not.
yes, I do know that it's illegal to install more than one pc. Just wondering what will happen if I decide to get a new pc or something. Also I heard activation is far more advance with windows 7 than windows xp. Is that mean they are more strict about 1 license term?
also, which family pack you can install 3 pc with one cd key. how can i know my cd key also can be install upto 3 pcs without being flagged.

You can't activate the same copy of Windows on two different computers at the same time,
once the first one has already been activated.

my friend told me that he used office more than one pc and it worked. So he said i shouldn't have any problems with it. i dunno who to believe anymore.

The key used to activate office can only be used on one machine at a time. The same thing is said for the Operating System and the activation key. A retail key can be used as many times as you want but can only be installed on one machine at a time and must be uninstalled before putting it on another machine. An OEM key is tied to the motherboard that it gets installed on and can't be installed on another machine.

Some Office keys are good for more than one machine, but zero Windows keys are good for more than one machine, unless you bought a Family Pack.

MS Office 2007 can be activated on 3 different machines. That fact is stated on the box when you purchase it. This is different from the OS keys. They are only good for one machine. Even if you have the exact same machine the serial numbers, mac addresses etc are all different internally. A flag would be raised when the second activation was raised.

Hope this clears up some of the confusion.

Edit. I forgot to mention that MS now sells a Family Pack (3) license for some of the Windows 7 products.

So I have to buy all windows 7 for each computer! It's not my fault vista sucks! what about the people who use illegal windows 7. what's wrong with that? my friend said he uses that and it works fine.

Would you rather buy a genuine copy of windows for around $100 or take the chance of going to jail?

What's wrong with stealing software? This must be a joke.

Vista works very well for a lot of people. Don't blame your
archaic hardware on Vista.
