Say I have a full copy of W7 Pro 64bit and an upgrade version of W7 Pro 64bit. Can I use the upgrade version activation key with the full version instilation? To save me installing it all again?

You can do a clean install with the upgrade disc?

Why wouldn't I be able to use the activation serial with the full copy. It's still W7, it's still the Pro version and it's still 64bit?

I don't know... but here's how you to a clean install with the upgrade version:

When installing and it comes asking for your cd key, jsut leave it blank, click next, and select the upgrade version (make sure you select the right one or this won't work) and continue installing.

When it's all done you can activate it manually. you can do it over the net or you might need to do it over the phone (use the toll free number, and jsut continue until you get to a human)

Because the keys match to whatever version you are installing, such as upgrade, oem, retail. So an OEM key won't work with an upgrade install cd for example.

So what your asking is, if you have a upgrade installed. Can you enter a full key under Systems and make it a full version?

I've done a clean install with an upgrade twice with no issues.

Just boot to the CD and choose a clean install and install as usual. When it asks for the key, simply put in the upgrade key.

Nope. I got a students version of W7 from a friend at Uni with a legit serial key. However, I've come to install it again and it won't because I think they only allow for one instillation. So I'm going to buy the upgrade edition of W7 but I don't want to have to re-install. I've already W7 installed from the student disc, just not activated.
