Windows Automatic Installer doesn't work

Try this:
  • Download Dial-a-fix and extract the contents to their own folder.
  • Double click on Dial-a-fix.exe
  • Check the Fix Windows Update and Fix Windows Installer options and leave all the other options as they are.
  • Click the Go button.
  • When this is completed, click the Flush SoftwareDistribution button.
  • When asked to preserve Windows Update history, answer No
  • Click on Exit and see if this has fixed the problem

Great, I'm going to try that! So, Hey GM...I have an unrelated question. Do you see the two attached items for sale on each of my posts on this thread? I was wondering where that comes from and is it safe? I don;t really care that it's there, but, it makes me nervous because it was never there until this thread and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with being hacked into??

I'll get back to you when I finish the Dial-a-fix.

Oh that are just google adds for this site. You know, the ads that are related to the thread name? There were some discussions last few days about that ads on offtopic. Don't worry because of them.
We are talking about the Microsoft updates, and they are advertising Microsoft Zune :D

WOW! You really are amazing! I mean EVERY TIME you help me, you help me GOOD! AS far as I can tell, the issue has been fixed. I'll keep you posted if there's a change. But in the meantime, I am in awe of your skills. What are you some kind of technological genius? Well, I hope for you, but not for me that one day you get a killer job somewhere. Maybe you can stay available for those who recognize your talents down the line. Do your parents comprehend how amazing you are? You remind me of the kid in "Terminator: The Sara Conner Chronicles", saving the world from the evil robots!

Anyway, THANKS so much for helping and again...I'll let you know if it kicks back into being a problem.

:)

OY! Did I speak too soon. I mean I still think you;re cool dude. But, alas, I'm still getting the little shield telling me some updates were unable to be installed and the little yellow shield sits there waiting.... argh!

OK, firstly try running Dial-a-fix again. Check FixSSL/HTTPS/Cryptsvc: and make sure that all the boxes underneath it are also checked. Click the Go button.

If that doesn't fix the problem, I'd like to see the contents of C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log, as it should contain more information. The file will be too big to upload to this forum, so please go to http://savefile.com and upload the file there. There is no need to register, just click the UPLOAD MY FILE button. After you upload the file, please post the link to the file. That way, anyone on the board can see the log almost as easily as if it were posted here.

ok ceewi1 here is the link as requested (sorry about the delay)

Your problem appears to be related to an update for the .NET Framework. Unfortunately, while it's a known issue, Microsoft don't have a solution that's 100% reliable. Try this:

Follow the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 to uninstall and reinstall the .NET Framework. Make sure you reboot whenever the installer requests you do so.

Once done, visit the Microsoft Update Catalog: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx

Enter KB930494 in the search box and click the Search button. Click the Add box next to the update then click View Basket -> Download and follow the prompts.

If that doesn't work, disabling Automatic Updates should bypass the issue, but be sure to check for new updates regularly if you do that.
