Windows CMD?

Okay I know what I want to do, and I have done it under Windows XP, but I want to do it under 2000, so here it goes.

I go to command prompt and enter
Code:
 edit 01-personal
. It brings up the edit window and names it 01-personal. What I then want to do is edit the window to be black background with blue text. but I can not get any of the drop down menus to work. Clicking on them just causes the menu letter, like the f in file to become highlighted.
So, is there a problem with my install causing this, or am I missing something?

Have you tried clicking the ALT keyboard button to highlight/select the first button in the menu (which in this case is "File")?
After you have done that, the first button in the menu ("File") will be highlighted/selected and from then on you can use the UP/DOWN and LEFT/RIGHT arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate through the main menu and of course use the ENTER keyboard button to CLICK the highlighted/selected menu item in the main menu.

MAIN MENU ---> File | Edit | Search | View | Options | Help

MENU ITEMS for let's say "File" menu ---> New | Open | Save | Save as | Close | Print | Exit

Here is an example I made.It worked with the mouse AND the keyboard:

ok, I tried that and it worked. Thanks.

Is there a way to make the BrBlue on Black the default? And is there a reason why the mouse is having trouble interacting with the edit app? or is it just a quark of 2000?

sorry, I know the issue is solved but I am just curious as to why it happened, I have always been able to use the mouse to do this is XP and Vista 32 bit, so i figured 2000 would be the same.

Not sure if you know this but you can also change the command prompt background frm black to anycolour with this simple switch

color /?

this gives you the list of colors available then replace the ? with the number of your choice

Yes you can make that as the default:

Just be sure that you configure it in the options dialog:

After that just click "OK" and then save the first written file. After that exit the EDIT program and then exit CMD.After that open CMD again then go to EDIT program again and open the saved file and all your colors will be there the way you adjusted them.

In my example I put the BrBlue color for my letters, but feel free to put that color as the background just like you want to.

Cheers!
