Windows Disk Cleanup

Hi, I ran the windows disk cleanup utility to find any unnecessary files hanging around, and saw the option to compress old files. I was going to carry this out, but wasn't sure what is done to the "old" files, and if accessing them in the future would be any different if they are compressed. If anyone could care to elaborate that would be greatly appreciated.

probably shifting huge files in windows and try making them smaller but i ain't sure.
when i do disk cleanup i tick everything except for "office setup files" cause those are needed

That's what I thought when I ran it, and likewise I leave office setup files unchecked. But I'm not sure exactly what happens to the files which are compressed.

Happens what you and Patricky thought. It shrinks the files deleting the unecessery datas like files with 6 KB-s that aren't necessery, once used and then hanging and slowing your computer. Also if you don't know what to do I would check all files since it will not 'delete' them, just shrink.
