Windows Failed to start (help please!)

Ok, so I turned on my laptop and a message appears saying my windows failed to start, may be caused by a recent hardware/software change

Thing is, Im sure I haven't had any recent change...

But anyway, it tells me to fix the problem I have to insert the windows installation disc and resart my PC. But this laptop came with the windows already installed, there's no disc!

What should I do?

Am I at any risk of losing any info on my harddrive?

thanks in advance

EDIT: oh, the status says 0xc000000f
info:an eror occured while trying to read the boot configuration data

What operating system are you running and did you do anything prior to change any boot settings like did you go into the bios or anything?

Oh, I should have mentioned that. It's Vista. Bought the laptop last year

No, I did not access BIOS. Not even a recent windows update

You may have a dying hard drive as that error refers to error reading boot configuration data. Reboot your computer and start tapping the F8 button and see if you get a boot menu with safe mode and a bunch of other options on the screen. One of them should be try to repair my computer or something like that, highlight that one and hit enter and it should fix everything hopefully.

i had a similar issue. this happens when your hardrive decides to go kurt cobain on you. my bet is that your hdd is dead. u can confirm this by pulling out ur hdd and putting it in an external hardrive enclosure. then plug it to an another computer and see if it responds. if it does..then its not the hdd..if it doesnt..well its gone..hope you are still under warranty
