Windows fails to start

Well, since this drive is trashed, I could open it up and see if I could repair it, right? My girlfriend is pretty savvy with this kind of stuff, so it's only worth a shot. It's not like I have anything to lose, right? I mean, it sounds like I couldn't even use Active KILLDISK to wipe everything and then reformat the drive.

Well yeah, you could try to repair it. I hope you have a clean room. :)

If it is crucial for you to keep it and get the data off of it, I suggest contacting professional recovery service.

No, you only have your data to lose. But if you don't care about that, the inner workings of a hard drive can be fun to play around with. If you absolutely need to wipe the drive, a nice rare-earth magnet can do the trick...mostly.
