Windows files and unrecognized versions error message

I have a Gateway laptop which is less than one year old.

Two weeks ago I began getting an error message that states the following:

"Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability Windows must restore the original verisions of these files. Insert your Windows Professional Service Pack 1 CD now." Then it gives me options for RETRY, MORE INFORMATION and CANCEL.

MORE INFORMATION simply tells me that I have inserted the wrong CD or my CD ROM is not functioning.

The CD does not recognize there is a problem. In addition, I find it interesting I cannot do a print screen of this.

Does anyone know what this is and how I can fix or delete this problem? To date I have found no problems with any of my problems or laptop functions.

TIA,
Linda Newell

- Is your disc a SP1 disc or is it a "regular" WindowsXP disc?
- You can try a Windows repair-installation :)
