Windows is Lagging

My computer is lagging when I do the simplest tasks like listening to music and on the web simultaneously. I know it isn't my hardware. What should I do? I always get the spinning disk beside my cursor.

Check what other processes are running on your computer if you suspect a virus check for anything that looks suspicious. Otherwise clean your hdd ccleaner is a great tool if you haven't got it already also a defrag can go a long way in improving Hard disk drive performance.

How do I check the other processes? My AV is telling me my computer is safe but you never know. I defrag about once a week

Ok if you are running xp or 7 its pretty much the same ctrl alt delete it will open task manager then you will see a tab processes click on this and see if there are any programs you don't recongnise / seem dodgy post them here and we will let you know if they are legit or not.

here are all the processes running at this time let me know if I can disable any of these.

Are you using all those google chrome windows? there are quite a few of them and they are taking up memory. Thats a nice system it shouldn't be lagging in windows 7. How long have you had W7 installed it is the case that w7 will start off quick slow down for a bit then once it gets going will be back up and running at a fast speed again.

I probably didn't need all the chrome windows I just forget to close them. I've hhad win7 on this since I built it (December 2010). Do I have to do anything for it get going again? A restore perhaps?

Not really Windows 7 is pretty automated it runs updates automatically and defrags once every week. If you haven't already download and run c cleaner analyze first to see what and how much you will be removing. I'm pretty sure with such a new system as that there shouldn't be any hardware issues.

Everything seems up to date and defragged. The only hardware that is older Is my monitor, mouse and keyboard.

Go to your power options and check that you (or someone else) hasn't accidentally enabled the power-saving mode.

Nice pickup hacakapelite, it totally slipped my mind that windows 7 auto enables power saving mode to balanced when you first install windows 7 it could have been running in that mode since you built the computer.

That was probably the case.
