Windows keeps muting my mic

For no reason in the sound and audio devices section of the control panel, under advanced in the device volume section, the mute microphone box keeps rechecking itself. Why? Can I fix it? This is XP SP2.

All of them are updated. Also, do you know why the sounds that my mic picks up are now going through the speakers as well?
