Windows Live Messenger problem

When I start up windows live messenger beta verison it says please download the newest verison so I do but when it instals it says error 1601. What should I do?

He said he tried upgradeing and it didn;t install, and the error in his first post.

he tried a direct download upgrade
i said download the final version separately
then uninstall the old one
and install the new version

having exactly the same problem, told me i had to upgrade it to use it today, after doing that when I run live messenger it asks me for the CD!

tried going to site to download, installer ran and did same thing

Yeah this is a nice final version.

sorted it, had to ensure it was completely unistalled first using control panel remove programs. then went to the live messenger website and reinstalled, all working fine

I tired to uninstall but it wont let me. It says problem with windows installer.
