I am using vista, and when attempting to use windows mail I am asked by windows security to log on, and enter username and password. I can't remember these, or never set them, as I usually use gmail. Any ideas how to get this working?
thanks.

Thanks for the replies. No, I am not connected to a domain. The Microsoft support link seemed to deal with resetting Windows Live account passwords, and I am being asked for Windows Mail username and password?

Are you just now trying to get your gmail account set up in Windows Mail? If so, then the username and password being asked for would be the same as the username and password used with your gmail account when accessing it via your web browser.

Also, before you can use an email client such as Windows Mail for a gmail account, you need to access your gmail settings/preferences via web browser and enable POP or IMAP. Otherwise, no email client will work with gmail.

No, I'm not trying to set up my Gmail with WindowsMail, I originally set it up with my Hotmail account. I just thought to search on Google and it seems my problem may be down to my anti-virus, so I'll try disabling that perhaps.

Update: that appears to have worked, got rid of norton and replaced with avg free, no problem. It seems I was not alone.
thanks for help and suggestions, I'm not very good with computers.
