Windows Media Center Problem

I have a corrupt hp windows media center computer and I have their recovery cd's. I want to do a repair installation like what xp pro can do, but it only allows me to erase the whole hard drive and I don't want to do that. Is there a way of doing just a repair installation and still keep your data on there? I was wondering if it was because they are HP's recovery cd's and not the regular cd's you get from Microsoft could be the problem?

If you have an hp comp then the recovery cd's should work IF it is the operating system installed when you bought the comp. It might still work with a manually installed OS...Contact Windows support if all else fails.

I believe it's the original operating system. What's the number for windows support?
