windows media player crashes?

Hello All!

Ok so whenever I try and play avcHD files on windows media player it crashes and says" ATI video card has stopped responding and has recovered". seems to say that a lot ONLY when i play back avchd files. how do i fix this issue? this problem doesn't happen at all when i play other files.

Try using an alternative media player so we can either rule out WMP or the format itself. I've had issues before with ATI cards clocking themselves too low in 2D mode to the point of instability. Does other high definition media play ok? If it does wind up being the whole 2D mode thing, then you'll need to create a custom profile with the clocks set to be higher. That's probably not the issue though seeing as how it's only a specific format giving you trouble. Are your drivers up to date?

drivers are up to date. i will try another media player and report back with results.

You may also want to think about uninstalling the drivers you have and install an older set. I have issues with my hd3870 with any drivers dated after october/november of 2009. I tried updating to the latest drivers that came out the end of last month and still have issues but when I load drivers dated back in october of 2009, everything runs good.

Try downloading Catalyst 9.10 and see if it works fine.

ok so I downloaded GOM player. all files seem to be working fine even my AVCHD files. YAY!!! that was a simple fix. damn windows media player...buggy
