Windows Media Player taking While to load

Using Media Player 11 on laptop with Vista. Lately I have been noticing Windows Media player takes a while to load the initial song that I double click on. After that every other one loads fine.... its just the first song that takes sometimes anywhere up to 15 seconds to load.

Its really not too much of an inconvenience but I also run a Christmas light show program on this laptop that runs a display for me and the same thing happens with the first song of the program.

Are there any settings I may be missing that may be causing this?
 
The thing about Windows is that over time it starts to slow down. I think this problem was fixed in Windows 7 but I know in vista and prior this was a major defect in the OS. Best way to fix this is about every two years reformat the HDD and at least once a month do a disc clean up and a defrag., if truly dedicated use ccleaner on there once a month also.

Best fix is to replace Windows with a Linux OS.
 
VLC is not bad at all but I prefer Banshee since it plays all the same codecs as VLC but it plays music and has media stores built into it.
 
my windows slows down after about 3 months the best fix is to keep defragmenting the hard drive and go through all your files and delete the things you dont need unistall programs scan for virus and malware and that that should fix not only windows media player but the computer speed as well
