a friend of mine burned me a copy of some of the good spider-man episodes. not this new junk they got out
and i've been really wantin to watch them. only problem is they won't play on my computer

windows media player opens, and i can hear it, but all i see is a blank black box and a weird looking line at the bottom.

let me other friend borrow the cd and they play fine on his computer. i have windows media player 10. and at the time, he only had 9. but now has 10 and they still work fine.

is this a problem with the codecs i have or something, or is it a problem with my graphics card or what?

it's driving me nuts

by the way, friend has an hp, and i think i do too (not really sure, i think it was more put together from hp parts then anything). and we both use intg. video

Its most definatly the codecs, try updating them...

if it were the codecs, wouldnt he receive an error message saying it is the codecs, and furthermore, would the sound play at all?

Yeah, I've experienced the same thing, just last week actually. Sometimes video codes are compleatly
separate from audio.

spazz31585, what type of video files are they?

i just checked, and they are avi
something interesting though, in the properties, under the summary tab, it shows the audio format is mpeg layer-3

could that mean something?

or u can try a different media player if you have one. if not, try downloading the available codecs and see if they work. they should, but if for some reason it doesn't.. u can try the divx codecs and a player called videolan

i don't have another video player. know where i can download one for free just to try out

i do have a program called powerdvd. but i think it's just for playing actual dvd's

and i still don't know hjow to try updating the codecs for media player. lol

Here's a free video player that installs codecs with it, which is pretty cool. Or look in my other post for an xvid codec link. Just run it like a normla installer.
