windows.old reformatting help

LinkError404

to make a long story short, i had to reformat my computer, then perform another format. When i come back up the second time i see that my transferred files in the "windows.old" folder now says "windows.old000" this got me excited thinking i still have those files from the previous reformat, however when i look for it, or search for it i cannot find it. I thought it has to be somewhere because otherwise it would say "windows.old" rather than with the "000" at the end.
Now when i went to play audiosurf to select a song, both "windows.old" and windows.old000" showed up on the list and i could use both of them. So my question is, why cant i see it inside my C drive. Or in searches. I need those files. can anyone help me out here? its so irritating that i can see its available but cannot get to it outside of choosing a song for audiosurf. Thanks.

You obviously did not install Windows OS correctly. You need to delete ALL the partitions and then create the new one, format it and install Windows OS on it.
You did it the wrong way so that is why now you have multiple WINDOWS folder/directories.
And it is also not a good idea to have multiple WINDOWS folders/directories from previous Windows OS installations and hold your important data in there. It is better to make a clean Windows OS installation like I said above and then create new folder(s) and put your important data in them.

Try accessing your data in those WINDOWS folders using Linux Ubuntu and then move it on some place safe until you perform a clean and corrent Windows OS installation.

Cheers!

that doesnt quite answer my question. and i know that i didnt do it all the way through but i like the feature of windows 7 where it keeps some of your old files :) anyway. yeah i guess thats what ill have to do. thanks

Whoops. Forgot about that feature. I'll check when I get home. The reason I'm baffled is cuz it shows up in a game but not in my computer. Odd
