To make a long story short...I have my dad's friends computer. He wants one user account with admin access. All the user accounts on there now have passwords except the guest one. I have no access to the LMhash file so I cant use cain and able to crack one of them.

Is there anyway to break the passwords or just A password of an admin account on the computer without having the hash files? I want to set him up with just one admin account?
Am I going to have to just reformat it?

Google is your friend....I am not sure this discussion is permitted here, even if it is for legit reasons.

Im starting to remember why I left these forums. Alright...

Well, if I ran a forum I would not support any hacking, exploiting or anything of the like even if it were for good reasons. This is because I would not want to attract a certain type of computer user. That is what 4chan is for, and all those other wanna be hackers out there.

The easiest way is to get a hold of a copy of ERD, which is not free and definitely not cheap. You can boot off it and do all sorts of things. Otherwise you would need to look at security auditing Linux distros. Some of them contain tools to crack/reset Windows passwords.

There are also tools with in windows to create password recovery floppy disks. All search-able with in google.

Lastly, it is not like we are going to do the work for you, and if this is a case of data on the drive that is not backed up, pull the drive out, then back up the data, then wipe and reload.

It's nothing personal, and most forums don't allow this. Like t said, google it. You'll get your answer faster there than you would here anyway.
