Windows Problem

Whenever I attempt to open my C drive I get a popup box asking me what I want to open it with.

That happens whenever I try to open any drive on my computer. Except the DVD drive.

This also happens on another computer in my house so there must be something we're doing wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Liam.

I've never seen Windows do this when opening a drive????...

Hmm.

Try choosing Explorer as the application used, but uncheck the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" just in case it doesn't work.

If it does work, you could check the box, I guess.

There may be an underlying issue because it shouldn't be prompting for this on Drives.

Check for viruses and scan all the machine... just to make sure. If they are networked and sharing files and folders, etc... if one computer is infected the others could be as well. Without really sitting in front of the machines it's very difficult otherwise to determine the issue. I would usually check for the most obvious first, if you have done a virus scan on all and they all are clean... another way to determine if it's Windows or not, is to do a restore point.

If you have another computer not attached to the network, attach it and see if the same thing happens. Chances are it shouldn't. Let us know.

Try: Start - Run -
first
REGSVR32 /u shell32.dll
then
REGSVR32 shell32.dll

Boris do you have an instant messenger I think I can help you.
I think the idea of forum is that anyone can lookup for solution if something similar happen...

Look closer.. I can't check the box...

I thought of that before but then realised that I couldn't get it to use explorer every time.

I tried the REGSVR32 /u shell32.dll + REGSVR32 shell32.dll thing...but it didn't work...

There are three computers on my network. 1 on the first floor, 1 on the second floor and 1 on the third. The first and third currently have this problem but the second floor computer does not.

One common factor between the two problem computers is that they both have Nod32 installed, whereas the second computer has Mcafee.

Thanks for all of your suggestions though :D
