Windows recovery 7 virus

Hello ,

i had the windows recovery virus. i followed the below

"This sounds more like an infection to me. Can you do the following. You may need to boot into safe mode with networking to do this.



Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware"


and this seems to clear that virus , however i still cant change my background screen from been black , nor do i have a recycle bin anymore ,
is their anything i should do next to make sure my PC is clean?
 
are you sure that you are not in safe mode? thats the only way that I know of that you can keep the screen locked black.
 
Yes, there is more to do but I'm at work right now and can't post specific instructions. I will reply again when I get home later. Just be patient.
 
yes , i originally started up in SAFE mode when i was trying my own way to clear the virus , however i dont believe am still in it , is their away to check and come out ?

For the background issue first open up a run command and then type "regedit" without the "" and then:
1. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop in the registry
2. Delete the subkey named “Wallpaper” it is a type “REG_SZ” and the value is blank
3. Change the desktop background as you would normally and the change should take

Please download and run Unhide.exe, which will unhide your start menu programs and should restore your wallpaper. If you are still having issues after running this, let me know.
 
that worked spot on , have all icons and back visable , will run the link for the recycle bin when i get in from work , cheers
 
i have all icons back and have been able to change my screen back to the screen shot of my choosing

is their anything else i need to do to make sure my laptop is safe , or is that everything?
 
Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces.
 
when i run the programme , it works , however when i try and get a log file it says

cannot find the C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Hijackthis\hijackthis.log.file
do you want to create a new file?


i clicked yes but did nothing ?
 
Right click on hijackthis and click on run as. If the option doesn't appear then press and hold the shift key while right clicking on hijackthis icon on your desktop.

Rerun hijackthis and place a check next to this entry.

Then click on fix checked.

Unless you are still having issues, you are set to go.
