Windows reformat help.

Hello

I recently upgraded some new hardware in an old computer of mine, and now I need to reformat. I put in the disk and continue to boot the CD. It goes to the blue windows screen and what looks like to be loading some stuff at the bottom of the screen. It then gets to a screen where I have to click enter to continue. About 2 seconds after it gets to this screen, my computer shuts down. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Thanks

Temp or hardware problem would be the cause for seeing that. A failing supply or simply a need to replace the 3v lithium battery being an older system are common causes. If the system had been running for any lengthy period of time when seeing this then you would also have to look at a possible overheating issue. cpu, board, supply

Look at the user manual for the board or make and model prebuild for information on the small coin sized vattery on the main board itself. Most boards now see the 2032 number sold in watch/jewelry sections as well as for calculators in retail stores for about $2-$3. That would one first item to consider.

What kind of hardware did you add and did it run fine before hand?

Hmm..I noticed the CPU fan shuts off about 2 seconds before the whole machine turns off..could it be related to the CPU fan?

OUCH! That was the same thing seen when the first board in the recent build quit after the first 3 days of use! Hopefully a fresh battery is all that will be needed and you are not seeing a bad cap on the board itself. Here when you pressed the power button everything shutdown after about 2-3 seconds.
