Windows reinstall help please.

Ad-Aware has always been a good one too for finding data miners and even removing registty values of the once on occasion browser hijacker typically ran into with IE 6. I've also seen AVG come to life when it was totally disabled to point out a trojan copied to drive right when running across some new site. But you should good for some time now with the combination there.

I never use the built in firewall and never actually use a full time version while the two mentioned are known and recommended by a good number of people that regularly use one of the two there. The ST was a good surprise when first trying that out where it still offers a form of firewall when you are without one. I tried Registry Mechanic and never actually preferred it but there's never any big complaints heard about it.

The important thing however is seeing that you have the system back running normally without any "bugs" to worry about for the time being. Your browsing habits will help as well as the combination of garbage spotters and bug removers. (I knew that would go over good. :P )

Thanks for sticking with me through this PC eye. For more security I also use the Firefox web browser for add ons i have Stealther, No Script, Cookie safe, ad block plus and adblock filter G updater.

How do you clean registry errors, what registry cleaning tool do you recomend, if any?

I think Im going to do some upgrades to this machine pretty quick, the computer is only about a year old but it has a Celeron D 2.66 Processor and 512 mb hynix ram or something like that. I have heard complaints about the make of ram im using. Thinking about PNY 1 or 2 gb. I was looking on tiger direct and out of hundreds of reviews on there PNY seems to get 5 stars. Seems to be there highest rated ram.

You won't see the adwares/spywares staying with FireFox for the most part. IE 7 does see some big improvements with a new antiphishing filter included along with a higher security level for the default settings.

The freewares used here work mainly for cleaning up any loose entries that remain from software uninstallers and a screen capture utility that creates new ones even though I usually rename the number to a name of type depending on what it is like a screen shot of a desktop or explorer window maybe old dos game in a virtual dos window.

There are several retail and freeware registry repair and cleaning programs to be found like Registry Mechanic-retail, RegCleaner-freeware, RegSeeker-freeware, CCleaner-freeware also cleans up loose temp folders left behind to free up drive space as well as cleaning up the IE history and offline content, and others like Regboost-retail. Different people will stay with one or the other while I may try out several.

Some are best for the more advanced user since they can actually remove drivers in the system32 folder as well as the registry entries for them. RegSeeker can do that easy enough. But that can be a problem for the less experienced with one simple mistake made.

PNY is one older low end brand for memory. I never go by reviews but actually having used a brand to see first hand. If you are simply looking for low cost memory on the older build there brands like Corsair, Crucial, Patriot, or Kingston have value memory for seeing a good brand as well as a good price. OCZ is a premium brand as well but catches the slightly higher price often.
