windows services

each time i log onto windows on my work pc, i get this :

after tracing the problem i found that it was RPC, remote procedure call, the service runs automatic but somehow it fails to start.
now after i click don't send, it will tell me that my pc is shutting down (1min remain), so i abort the shutdown process via run, and i can't even copy/paste/move files around... this is ridiculous, if i restart same thing, but it does not happen in safe mode though.. any thoughts ?

Hi Patrick,

You will have to do some registry changes... Remember to take backup before editing.

Start/Run the command called regedit.exe (Registry editor).

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\
CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters and on the right side,
double-click TransportBindName - press delete and give it an empty value.
That will close port 445.

Also, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE and change the value of EnableDCOM from Y to the value N - that will close port 135.

This will remove the bug.. I am sure it will work in XP but not sure in Vista.

google ? lol i got the same thing when i googled. that does not fix the problem though, i also tried THIS link which has some patches for XP but when i install it says my updates is newer than this one ,so there is no need to install, strangely enough, i can't disable windows update

yup i googled it out but i faced the same problem and the above thing had worked for me.. this problem came after i newly installed xp. there are more such registry solutions for it but i am not able to find the exact blog which had all the solutions. i m searching for it and would be right back as soon as i get the link..

by the way, microsoft update doesn't help in this case as far as i knw..

i didn't say it did, just have to find a way to disable it, not even in safe mode
edit :
not to mention right now am working in safe mode

Yeah well I've created a thread about dumprep.
Your problem will appear again soon as you will have to completely disable dumprep-k from system.

Me and some of my friends, during one specific Windows Update, had terribel problems. I'm too lazy to search for my thread now, it's 2 months old.
My computer would constantly restart, so did his and another my friend, and there were also some cases.
Due to the unstable windows update, windows security turned on-dump rep-and it would restart "to prevent the system damage" or something like that.

My computer>Right click-Properties>Advanced tab>Startup and Recovery Settings>change the memory dump , it's in the end- from Complete or Kernel memory dump to None or small memory dump.

Restart and that will fix it for good.

Oh...you can also wait till the next Windows update fixes it, that's why it's not recommended to disable the updating.

no it didn't been so many hours now, though i have not restarted, well i barely shut down my pc anyways :D

hihi, :P my next restart will be unless there's a windows update that prompts me to do it, until then my uptime will remain !! :P

Wow...that's actually not healthy for your PC haha, but anyway...
Taken that you have SP2, I'll be so responsible and tell you when the updates come so you can restart :D If you don't spot it of course lol and if I remember to of course :D

you don't wanna know how much i achieve once in regards to uptime on my work pc !! :P
maybe am too darn lazy to shut down every night or am to darn lazy top press the power button every morning, i leave outlook open also so i catch up on them mails !!! hihi

so there are multiple causes for this problem... the only time i faced this problem was when i freshly installed xp on my system and also at another time when i did it on my friends pc.. the registry hack solved it but it seems it doesn't in your case.. whenever u restart it, do try to implement all the hacks and see if it works..

by the way, when it happened with me... my internet connection used to fail.. it didn't show any changes (the connection seemed to remain as it is) but no website would open. Does this happen in your case?

My internet works, when the error pops up, i click don't send, from there i can't copy/paste/ drag & drop or even log off.
it tells me my pc is shutting down in a minute, actually it restarts, its a loop, after you load the desktop again from restart, same thing, i have to push the error dialog box to the side of the screen so i can work, otherwise if i click it, am doomed !! :o
