Windows setup cannot save file: ?

The other day I had the dreaded blue screen on my computer so I formated my hard drive and proceeded to re install win xp. Now every time setup starts copying files I get messages saying "setup cannot copy file xxxx.xxx" it is not always the same file either.
I've tried another copy of win xp that I borrowed from a friend and that had the same problem. then, I thought that maybe the hard drive went bad so I tried 2 other hard drives that I had laying around and they both had the same problem. What should I try next?

I built this computer new about 3 months ago, here are the specs:
AMD athlon 64 3000+
Chaintech zenith vnf3-250
2-512mb generic ram
160 gb WD 7200rpm SATA hdd
Chaintech Nvidia geforce 5700LE
opterite DVD burner
Soundblaster live sound card
Rosewill case, 400W Power supply

Thanks in advance,
Sven

I actually had a problem similar to that when I worked on my brother's computer. It couldn't get through the Windows installation. I tried the hard drive thing and that didn't work either. What ended up working was taking a graphics card from one of my other computers and using that. I'm not sure if it was the actual graphics card or the fact that the one that worked was PCI. So I guess if you have a graphics card available try it - it might work and it might not but its worth a shot.

Okay, I forgot to put in my system specs that there is also a Lite on cd burner in there and I get the error when I use either drive. I might see if I can get hold of another video card. any other suggestions if this doesn't work?

Thanks again,
Sven
