Hi

Hope you may be able to help on this question, on start up on desk top i get it going through a list of what its checking which slows it down from starting up quick, i once removed all this from start up on win 98 many years ago from registry if i remember but cant remember how to do it now.

Doesnt do it on laptop it goes straight to windows screen.

Operating system is windows xp sp2

Is there anything in your "Startup" folder?

Go to Start, All Programs, Startup and see if there's anything there that you don't want.

What it is when i start the computer it comes up with loads of things like telling me that certain devices are being checked etc then after this it starts to load windows like main screen, it just takes a few minutes to load all up and want to get to loading quicker.

If i remember its start, run, misconfig and then remove what you dont want at start up.
Can someone explain if im right

Yes thats right,

You may also want to defrag your hard drive,Check if your antivirus is set to scan at startup....Thats annoying but does it sometimes on mine and slows it down.

Also run Ccleaner to clean out junk
