Windows Startup Problem

I have windows xp sp2 and i recently had System Mechanic pro 7 installed... I just removed it due to a licensing problem, but it seems that i had a boot time defrag lined scheduled and it was never completed.

Now every time I boot it says something about system mechanic not being found

How do i stop these messages appearing? is there somewhere in the registry I can look for the boot messages or something?

I have no ideas

Cheers

Kesava

ps. i hope i have been detailed enough

Click on Start - Run - type msconfig in the box.

A new box will appear called system configuration utility.

Click on startup - you should be able to clear any items in there other than your antivirus program by unticking the box.

Reboot.

type msconfig into run and look under services if you see it there then disable it, dont mess around with anything else under services but you can also click the startup tab and there will be a list of programs that run when the pc is started you can uncheck anything there that you dont want to run at startup this will speed up the boot time.

i dont recognize any of the stuff thats in there, although a lot of the item names are abbreviated so i cant tell what they are. is there any way i can see the full items?

Are you talking about startup or services? Or both?

In startup, you can increase the size of the command line which should give you a clue what the program is. As I said before, untick everything other than your antivirus program.

In services, click hide all microsoft services to leave the remaining few.

I would work on startup first as that is more likely to resolve the problem.

there was nothing under startup... but in services there was something related to iolo (the system mechanic company) so i unselected that and ill try restarting now

Make sure its not listed under Start - Programs - Startup.

Other than that, it is most likely called from the registry. Click on Start - Run - Regedit and do a search. Disclaimer applies though if you're not familiar with deleting keys from the registry!

lol i dont really care for completely stuffing up my computer... as i see it... i can just do a clean re-install of windows.... anyway i went to regedit and deleted the part concerning system mechanic... so ill try and see if it worked later on.. lol i probaly shouldnd have deleted the whole thing tho
