Windows - System Error

There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network.

What does this mean, it comes up in a belloon bubble at the buttom pointing to an excliamation mark in a yellow triangle?

That Means, Your computer has either been given, Or using the Same IP as another computer you have on your Lan.

Tell Us your situations.

Ie.

Are you running DHCP?
How Many Computers?
Operating Systems?
Ever done any work with Networks Before?

I don't think I'm running DHCP, not sure what that is though. running 3 computers including mine. Windows XP. Yes I've done work with Networks before. I'm smart with computers.

I'm smart with computers.

smart with PC doens't mean smart with networking:P
anyway if you're still getting conflicts.
if you don't think you're running DHCP like you say then you're on static IP, and another PC has the very same IP as you, just change yours or the other one.
i don't think dhcp server is stupid enough to release an IP twice

It just means theres another computer usually with the same I.P adress...

Address this by running a network setup wizard on your computer and restarting all the computers afterwards. Or goto network connections and manually change all the I.P adresses on the network IE ... 192.168.0.1 etc or 10.0.0.1 etc

It wont but if one system is using a static IP that DHCP has already leased then this could happen.

The easy way if you have a router/switch is to read the manual for how to set it to use DHCP then set all the computers network cards to aquire an IP address automatically. (control panel->network connections->right click a network card->properties->obtain IP address automatically)

I dont see any network card. I see wireless network and thats it, no network card. I right-click and properties but not see any optain IP automatically.

after you have right-click and go in properties, highlight internet protocol (TCP/IP) then click the other properties below it (a bit to the right).
now you will see the option to either use automatically or input your own IP
