Windows Update Issues, Lots of Folders in my Vista64 drive

first off, windows updates, about 7 of them, just won't install, and I have plenty of space, over 4 gigs at least, on the drive itself.

and secondly I don't know what this means but all these folders built up really recently, they only amount to 13 megs or so but I don't know what to think here's a screenshot:

You should be getting some sort of error or error number when they don't install explaining why.
 
well what happens is I try to install them through windows update while the computer the is on, and it just stalls on one of the updates, I don't get an error message. Then when I go to turn off the computer the updates try install before it shuts down, and again, it installs a couple, then stalls again, and I am forced to do a hard shutdown. only sometimes after a hard shut down it does a disk check, maybe 1/5 times. this has been happening for a couple weeks now.
 
A hard shut down will cause a disk check to happen. Do you know what updates they are? Some aren't necessary.
 
I would recommend a back up and reinstall. Just makes life easy, and Win 7 takes about 20 minutes to install.

I'm gonna have to do this soon enough I know, I just really wanna upgrade to SSD, so I can live with it for now. the computer works pretty well for the most part.

Do your self a favor run away from vista get windows 7 you will be so much happier i was having the same issues with vista i put 7 on my laptop and all the errors and the freezing went away
 
I've also had windows update issues, from jamming when downloading, to jamming when configuring, they never seemed to work ok, so i shut them down. I can't say that i miss them...
 
yea I reinstalled windows 7 64 bit, only took 40 minutes or so, and everything has cleared up now. Is it just me, or does 80 updates (or so) after reinstallation sound high?
 
Sometimes a reinstall is the only way to ensure you sort it and frequently (with Win 7 especially) is much faster than trying to problem solve it. Goes for almost all malfunctions. You can make it easier by creating an image of the your fresh installed state with apps and settings. That will take even less time.
