Windows update never works!

Every single time i have reloaded my computer i have this issue. Windows updates alllways failing. Bout toswitch back to linux.

Im doing a system restore cause my laptop has been stuck for 2 days on the windows update failed screen.
I have windows 8 installed on an HP laptop. I have no devices connected to the laptop. Oh and to add to the problem, my system restore just failed.

What is up with windows and why do they suck so much?!
 
Oh here we go. Somehow the system restore worked even though it said it failed. I go to check for more updates to try this again and now i get an error "8024001b"
 
On fresh installs, I always disable automatic updates and then manually update everything first. Is it the original version of 8 or is it actually 8.1? A lot of times lately Microsoft Net Framework software will fail to update. So I suggest manually updating and choose to net framework last after all the other updates have been done.
 
Its windows 8.
I cant install 8.1 yet cause i dont have the updates.
Laptop is not over clocked.

I always disable the automatic updates. I have it download them but choose to have me install them when ready.
 
Manually do the updates in batches. Skip doing any microsoft netframework updates until the end.
 
Have you checked that your HDD is not failing? If not, then do them by batches like John said. I have the same problem, if I do the 180+ updates before 8.1 in one time, it crashes and fails to update. Doing them 20 by 20 made it work.
