Windows update problem

Hi all, just yesterday microsoft had a critical update that I was unable to control. The update is KB980408 and my internet connection off my motherboard LAN was running fine until i turned on my computer today and it had stopped. I installed a dfe-530tx+ lan adapter and my internet is still not connecting any ideas on why this is?

system restore to the point before the update

or, uninstall the network device (go to control panel>device manager) and let it reinstall, or reinstall with the reinstall disc if you have it.

You always have control over the windows updates. If you don't want it to install without your say so, go to windows update and click change the way windows update notifies me(I think, I'm on a college computer so can't see to tell you exactly, but use an educated guess) and make it so it either doesn't check for updates, or it tells you when updates are available

go to control panel>windows update and choose check for updates but let me choose to download or install.....
that way u can pick which updates to install.
windows update will always create a restore point prior to installation because sometimes things go wrong
so go to system restore and you should be sorted!
