windows update tweak help

i want to turn off windows update but i want to do it in the manner where the red x icon dont pop up. i seen it down not sure how it was done. M$ updates botched my computer up so i refuse to use them. any help

why not just go to the taskbar, go to customize and look for updates, and put them as "always hide" ?

Go to Start -> Control Panel and double click on Security Centre. Click on Change the way Security Centre alerts me. Untick Automatic Updates and click OK.

It's worth at least manually downloading critical security updates, though, as without them your system is more prone to infection.

or set it to automatic custom update so you can pick wich updates to use.
