Also, when i got to install the new Internet Explorer, i can download the file but it doesnt install. The installer runs through the hole install and says to complete restart, which i do but when the laptop has reloaded, the old IE is still only usable.

had a similar problem and I was advised to...

Click on "Tools" -> "Internet Options" -> "Security" tab -> "Default Level" -> "Apply"

This allowed the Update page to load for me. I was then able to download the updates.

Hope this helps...

Oright, I will give that a try and post back on the status.

Thanks

Tried what you recommended and realised that the laptop is already set on default. What i dont understand is that it has been activated when first purchase and its not even a week old so should update straight away.

Anyone else any suggestions please?

Thankyou

Well how about you dont download the updates automatically.

you could use microsofts active x method (straight from the site)

but that would need a genuine copy of XP which is what you should have.

Hmm..., did you have an error when you tried to install the new IE the first time? It sounds like the program has part of it installed, so it will partially run, otherwise it just screws up... Try to see if you can uninstall IE (probably impossible), otherwise what I had to do was a complete reformat and then the program I had a similar problem with worked like a charm :)

Firstly IS a legit copy as bought bran new laptop, with the OS pre-installed.

Tried trhe usual method of going to microsoft updates, and mentions active x, and if i select allow it still comes with the error.
