Hey guys,

I was wondering, is the beta version of vista worth getting, will there be any cons/pros?

Thanks...

I have windows vista beta 2, havent used it much, but I didnt notice a whole lot of difference right off. I believe the beta versions and all will just be discontinued or deactivated sooner or later as the official release is nearing.

i've got beta 2 and RC1 they are prtty good if you have free time and want to play with vista for free go for it it will be deactivated on june 31 2006 i belive

When you say deactivated you mean if I got it I would no longer be able to use it and would have to put XP back on?

Pretty much, yeah. Just like regular xp, if you dont enter the key, you can only use it for a few days, it would probably lock up or stop working maybe, tell you to upgrade. In that case you would have to downgrade to XP or upgrade to the full version of Vista.

If you just want to try it for the heck of it, no. Unless you plan to partition it on there with your existing OS, there isn't really any point since it'll be deactivated next year. Just stick with XP for now.

Oh right, Ok thanks for the help guys, I'll just stick with XP, I can't be bothered fathing around installing this OS and taking that one off...

: ¬D

Vista isn't good for a permanent OS, since there are lots of driver and application issues, as well as some OS bugs.

If you want Vista for free when it comes out, head over to Newegg.com and buy an OS there with the free upgrade ticket.

I have had a little experience with Vista RC1, however, I have not used it much because boxes pop up when you click on certain things saying, "did you want to do this?" That got aggravating after a while.

You can deactivate those annoying boxes. It's under the user accounts section in the CP.

Anyway. You can upgrade from RC1 to the final release (at least they said there was a good chance but remember they are Microsoft). Microsoft says RC2 will be less probable to be able to upgrade to final so I'm just sticking with RC1. If there is something specific you want out of Vista or you just want a test run before you make your decision to buy or not then get RC1. But if you just want it to say you have Vista then don't waste your time.
