Windows Vista.. How could it go wrong?

Hey.

I just bought a laptop. When I was looking for one I saw that the expensive ones were sold with XP and the cheapest with Vista. That shows how bad Vista is. I have Vista on this laptop and, no suprise, I hate it.

But my problem is: Why is it so bad? Why have Microsoft made this crap operating system? I mean, it would be pretty easy to fix the problems from XP and call it Vista, but they didn't.

I might get Linux.

i beg to differ. i love vista- yes i disliked it at first because everyone said it was bad, but i love it. anyway the xp ones are more expensive because microsoft took support away from xp so i bet the compinies have to pay more to get licenses

vista is better from a technical standpoint but many find it too different from xp, and find that its requirements are too high.

I don't feel it different. I have turned alot of the visual things off though. But there are some things that just annoys me alot. Another thin: It eats my battery in just an hour.

what i mean is that i am a pro at xp, i know how to do things, whereas on vista, its much too different, and im back to being a noob.

I mean, why the hell did they get rid of display properties!!!
How is "Personalise" in any way easier than tabs?

that just annoys me so much...

Also the OS treats me like an idiot.

Vista was pretty bad at first until I got the the ultimate with sp1. So far so good with a couple of hick ups. But so was XP when it first came out. Vista uses much more ram and with all the junk that comes with new pre-built pc's it slows them down. As for the your batt drain you should of got a better notebook, you would enjoy vista more. I got my sister an acer that cost me $340 basic model and as soon as I added more ram it ran like a dream.

yeah xp didnt get good until SP2

hopefully the next version of windows (sometime ~2010) will be more mature

Vista downloaded and installed SP1 today and it is better now. A little slower but better somehow. Things works better now.

but maybe I have the wrong version. What is the differense of the Vista 32 bit and 64 bit. I tried to read on the internet what the differense was, but I didn't understand a word. The 64 is the best I think, I have the 32 bit.

depends

if your system supports 64 bit, it lets you make more efficient use of your memory and cpu, which is good if you do gaming/calculations/cad

but for most people its not needed, and some software doesnt work right under the 64 bit version of windows

What's so bad about it? You are asking us why it is so bad, yet you arn't telling us what you don't like about it. And no the fact that certain XP laptops happened to be more expensive than certain Vista laptops doesn't mean Vista is an inferior OS. I like Vista, it looks so much better and simpler than XP. It just seems like because Vista started off kind of shaky, everybody has jumped on the "hate Vista" bandwagon.

i love xp, and if i want i can put a transformation pack on it if i wanted it to look like vista. i dont hate windows vista, but it does need some improvements. like the way it wears all the parts down and the way it gets slow so quickly. but hey, thats just me.

I will continue to use XP until Im forced to use Vista. Vista looks nice but its too demanding.
