Windows Vista installation questions

hey had a couple of question for windows vista installation

one: is there two types of windows vista installation cds that you can purchase (not talking about basics, premium and that type)? if i remember correctly wasnt there a type of windows vista cd for a person with a blank computer (no os orignally on, just completely empty). And wasnt there a different cd for someone who is trying to upgrade from lets say, windows xp and they want to put in windows vista? That was the case for older OS like windows 2000. I wanted to see if that was still the case

two: officially speeaking, if you purchase an OS, are you able to legittly install it on multiple computers?

Yes there are upgrade CDs you can buy online for 32 and 64 bit.

also no..they consider it piracy. Though I have my vista on 3 of my own PCs. They sell versions made for multiple installs.

how did you manage to install it on 3 different pcs? did you use the same cd keys three times or did you hack it or something

no used the same key but if another IP started to use my key I am sure it would get banned...I also only update 1 PC at a time to avoid a possible ban.

it doesnt do it by IP, it does it by hardware

ms let the HW change 3 times, for people who replace thier motherboards and cpus etc... but it detects any more HW changes you will have to ring up and explain yourself in order to activate.

Dont run 1 key on 3 machines. It is illegal!

And there are 3 types of install media, vista OEM, vista retail, and vista corporate. All of them (apart from corp, which is ultimate) contain all the versions on one cd

Way I see it I bought it...I have the right to install it on any PC I own.

Microsoft can kiss my white @$$ I am one of the few people who actually bought Vista vs easily stealing it online.

Though thanks for the 3 HW change...will have to not install it on a new PC ^-^. I hear getting with their tech support is like a 2 hour+ wait.

You can only use it on one PC at a time. This isn't just a legal issue; as far as I know, if you activate the license on a PC, then activate on another, you can no longer use the OS on the first PC. You'll log into reduced functionality mode.

ms generally let you get away with acvtivating 3 times (and all pcs keep functioning) but that would be ILLEGAL. its like this to let people change motherboards etc... . If you do it any more than that, then you have to ring up to activate each time.

Dunno yet to log into such a mode....but thanks for the warning regardless.

Still I don't see the harm...would anyone really spend 1000 dollars or more for 3 same copy versions of a OS for each of their 3 PCs? I doubt that. I would say 90% that will say they do are lying and a 50/50 chance they are using a stolen copy.
I don't think MS cares to much either since my key is still full active and running on all 3 PCs...I feel so illegal now....:D

Sadly in this day and age with the way the market is going people don't have that kind of cash to waste.

If it's activated, i.e. you call MS and they activate it, it's legal, IMO. Technically, it may or may not be legal, but that's the fault of Microsoft for having weak activation routines. ;)

yep, you signed a contract, and if you break it, then thats illegal.

it doesnt matter what they do, the contract says that you must not run it on more than one machine at once (if you do the phone activation and answer yes to this question your key will be blacklisted)

Yeah, I guess you're right. :P

Still don't see anything wrong with it, so long as you paid for an original license.
