Windows Vista specific products?

Hey guys, I was reading an article saying Microsoft "promises to have hardware and software specific products for Windows Vista available by it's launch". What does this mean exactly? Does this mean some of my programs or hardware devices wont work with the new operating system?

well i think it means they'll have programs that will only work on vista being released, i know when halo 2 comes out for the pc it'll be vista only.

Some hardware components such as DX10 capable video cards wont be released until aroun the time Vista is out. You can still use older video cards, but it wont fully support DX10.

Theres also a thing called HDCP, which basically is something your video card and monitor have to support in order to watch next-gen movies on your computer.

The way they make games and software combatible with an OS
is that companies like microsoft give the other companies for a price their DLL coding
so the software companies add this dll coding to their software to make it run on the OS.

also DX10 Supposedly (like they always say with new versions has better gameplay, sound and graphics. which the game needs to run

Well I'm a software developer for .NET 3.0 (formerly WinFX). I can tell you that alot of new software programs coming out will eather be desighned for or only run on Vista. (Only reason to get it: HALO 2 VISTA)

So should I wait to build a new computer for DX10 video cards? If I didn't wait and bought a high-end motherboard, would it work with DX10 video cards when they come out?
