I am using my fathers computer and windows has not updated since feb 2008.
Whenever I attempt to update either online, or through update, the computer freezes and it does not update... any suggestions of where I can start?

I have waited over an hour. He said at one point he got an error message, but I don't receive one now. It just says uploading updates.. but the progress bar never moves and the page says not responding. Very frustrating. I have tried doing it from the actual microsoft site as well and get the same results.

Try running a system restore to before the last update and then downloading and installing all available updates when able.

It shouldn't have. But if you want to update it. Go start> Right click on My Computer or Computer. It should pop up with a window. Saying all of your system requirements. It should have at the top Update Windows Vista. Click that and it should do everything by itself. It shouldnt take long to get the updates. Only unless you updating your service pack it might take ti's time. Also you can set it to auto-update when you go on the internet.

Hope my info helped!
Luke
