Windows wont recognize a drive

I am trying to install windows 7 on a new build(my first). I get to the part where it asks me what drive i want to install windows to, but it does not show any drives. I can see the HDD in the bios and when Windows looks for drives to get drivers of off. when i click on the HDD it tells me it needs to be formated but then says it can't. It tells me to check the connections as well. I am at a loss of what to do, any one have an idea?

CPU:AMD Phenom II x2 Black addition
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 500gb
GPU: XFX HD 4870

Have you got the drive plugged into one of the Blue SATA slots, not the white ones?

^^ i believe so, not 100% like i said it is my first build. how would i check?

Blue and White? Are IDE slots. SATA's would be 1 slot only, per each SATA connection. Is it possible to take a picture of it and post it here. So, we can see for sure.

Here is his motherboard and he does have blue and white sata ports. The sata connectors are different then what we are used to seeing anymore.

Is RAID enabled in the BIOS? I just put together a system for a friend and the BIOS came with RAID turned on. Also check your manual to see which set of SATA connections you should be using if your not using RAID.
