windows wont refresh (BSOD) :(

Hey guys, nothing seriously ever goes good for me LOL. Basically been getting random BSOD the past few days on my new build. firstly started off as memory_management so i removed a stick and havent had the error since. then about 1 hour ago it bsod and gave the error NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM on file NTFS.sys, which apparently means theres something wrong with my ssd :(. i ran windows memory diagnostic and about halfway through came up with recover your pc from install media, and it wouldnt let me do anything so i turned it off and on and worked fine.

i then decided to refresh the system incase anything had been corrupted by the ram or something else etc. got to around halfway again and BSOD... but i didnt see an error on there. ran the pc and it came up scanning and repairing drive (:c) and then rebooted. its running but i thought as it failed the refresh id try it again.

clicked on refresh pc and then it came up with insert media which i had to do before. inserted the disk and it does nothing but shows up on dvd drive only comes up with an error message (could not find the files needed, if you have installation media insert and restart it from the media). i restarted the pc and again the message saying insert media stays there, it normally comes up with a little message saying verifying and then continues with the refresh but nothing at all comes up, what do i do lol...

But seriously i have never had so much bother building something before :/, building the pc was fun but it just keeps getting worse daily. first dodgy cpu then disk drive then RAM now it BSOD randomly.

Also note i have scanned the drive under properties and diskcheck in command prompt both came with no errors.

im thinking im going to have to re-install windows LOL. I JUST HOPE IT HASNT BLEW THE DISK UP.

im really confused and my heart sank when it bsod about 1 hour ago, i thought i had fixed the problem :/.

Windows 8 64 bit
SSD: Kingston Hyper x 3k 120gb
Ram: corsair vengeance 1600mhz ddr3 (now 8gb :(

for some reason my ram also is set to 1630mhz? i changed it from 1333mhz to 1600 and it kept rebooting and then after a few times came on with it on 1635mhz. the system is also not overclocked just set on normal 3.5ghz +3.9 boost.

ANY HELP APPRECIATED (BEFORE MY HAIR FALLS OUT WITH STRESS, LOL)

Have you ensured you have the latest motherboard bios and correct bios settings throughout such as correct RAM frequency settings?

i have bios 1708 which has everything i need to run in my system, there is really no need to update it. Ill check RAM timings now.

I dont know how the bios should be set out, i dont have the manual for it. i can get an online manual which is the same as the paperback.

Ram is set to 9-9-9-24 which it is supposed to be. Im thinking should i re-install windows just to be sure. its running ok havent had any bsod yet but it still wont let me refresh the system.

im going to go to bed now and check when i get home from work tomorrow but please any help will be great :).

I'm guessing you still have a ram issue. Ram issues cause files not to copy correctly when installing windows.

ensure the frequency and voltage is set correctly on the RAM.

ran memtest opened 4 to test, ran 1 on 2048mb and no error came up immediatly but as soon as i ran another 2048mb it came up with errors something along the lines of Copying between b18d50a and b18d2b6 did not result in accurate copy and i hit ok and the same error kept coming up but with a different error code each time i must have hit it 100-200 times and it got about 0.3% into the second test. going to try removing a Ram stick and testing again on 1 4gb stick.

took 1 stick out and ran test immediatly gave error and firefox kept crashing after about 10 seconds it bsod with the error code system_service_exeption

Took that stick out and put the other stick in and test is now running both on 2048mb with no errors so far ill leave running for a bit and get back proberly a few hours.

got to around 300% on the first test and gave 2 errors which were something along the lines of -"MemTest has detected that your computer cannot accurately store data in RAM." what does this mean exactly. Does this mean this Ram stick is bad also??

i have 8gb coming within the next few days so i can run on 4gb untill then, ill memtest the new ones to see what happens, hopefully i can RMA the bad stick/s

Edit this is also the desktop memtest and not the memtest86 boot version as i have no spare disks.

edit a bit more, been given the same errors again.

Definately sounds like you need new ram altogether.

Thanks for the reply, most likely. Ill wait for this new ram and test that too. I have 1 other stick to test which i will be doing soon, hopefully this one will be ok. if it checks out ok do you reccomend refreshing the install to make sure no files are bad from the ram. Ill wait for the new ram to be tested ok before doing so.

In regards to your RAM running at 1630MHz, it's because of your FSB. It should be 100MHz, but I've had some ASUS boards automatically setting it to 102MHz or 103MHz. If it's 103MHz, your RAM will run at 1648MHz. So it could be 102MHz.
In your BIOS settings, there should be three different modes in the first screen you'll see.
Something like 'Effecient', 'Normal' and 'Turbo'. If it's on turbo, I think it auto-OCs your FSB. Took me quite a while to figure out when I used my P8Z77-V LX, which should be similar to yours when it comes to the BIOS.
The effect of that FSB overclocking also affects your CPU. If you run a multipler of 43 and an FSB of 100MHz, your CPU speed will be 4.30GHz. With a 103 FSB, it's 4.43GHz. So it's used to squeeze that extra bit of performance out of your CPU. I haven't seen boards able to do more than 106MHz, and that was a Maximus Extreme, which is their highest end overclocking board.

tested the next stick but started watching tv and fell asleep from about 9pm-4am and it was still running, no errors found on that stick so im guessing it was the other 2 Ram sticks causing problems (mainly the first one as it gave me hundreds of errors) the second tested stick gave me 4 errors after a few hours and this stick is fine it was on something like 800-900% before i ended the test. I just have a final stick to test which i will leave running for a few hours.

If it checks out ok i will see if i can RMA the other 2 faulty sticks and have the 2 new RMA sticks with the 2 new sticks coming in a few days. Just to be sure theres nothing wrong. I will then refresh windows just to make sure all the files are fine and hopefully all should be good to go.

just about to check the final stick now and then after get in contact with corsair and RMA the other two faulty ones.

big phew anyway :).

hey, thanks i was getting confused as why it was set like that. I had it on turbo but put it back onto normal to do all the memtests. I was thinking it may be something to do with the CPU when i first set it to 1600mhz as it auto adjusted itself to 1630mhz.

Thanks :)!

4th ram ran to 350% no errors. i put both RAM into the pc and it wouldnt post, i reseated the RAM and it booted but instantly bsod giving the error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and then rebooted fine. new memory should be here tomorrow so ill try that.

Dont know why it BSOD both RAM checked out ok. im going to re-boot a few times and see what happens. Im still thinking there maybe Bad RAM here but hopefully it may have been because it wouldnt post and needed re-seating. If anything it will be the one i just tested as when i first booted the pc about a week ago it showed up as 16gb installed 15.7gb available, removed that stick and it showed up as 12gb. if it gives me anymore bsods then that stick will be the problem. it now shows up as 8.0gb even with the stick installed.

EDIT: i ran windows memory diagnostic in CMD and it ran straight through, no errors detected. (unlike before where it asked for a pc recovery halfway through...)

Also i couldnt get battlefield 3 to install a few days ago, it kept bsod just after the second disk. hopefully the RAM was the problem there and it will install now, ill edit and keep you informed.

EDIT SOME MORE: Installed bf3 first time no problems didnt miss a beat, just got to update 10gb... thats where my 2mb/s internet will come in handy... LOL can see this taking about 1 month to update says 35 hours to update.....................AHHHHHHH think im going to take it to my bros and update it there wtf... Also firefox hasnt crashed, it was crashing every few minutes/seconds before. No BSODS yet :)
looks to be running fine. running for the past few hours no problems like a coal fired boss.

Edit a little more ;), noticed the ram was set to 1333mhz again, reset to 1600mhz. im guessing what i mean by it wouldnt post was because it had a ram stick i hadnt adjusted in as i took it out pretty much as soon as the build was finished and i turned it off while it was auto-adjusting the RAM speed proberly causing the BSOD as soon as i re-powered the machine again. seems to be running fine now though.
